How can modern retail be combined with energy-efficient construction? Our new buildings follow a clear green building concept: Where structural conditions permit, we use our own photovoltaic systems to cover part of our electricity needs. In addition, we recover waste heat from refrigeration systems and use heat pumps for heating and cooling, along with energy-saving LED lighting to reduce electricity consumption.

In this way, we not only generate economic value for the region at our locations, but also specifically reduce energy demand and operational CO₂ emissions.

For existing stores not built by Kaufland, we integrate individual elements of our green building concept on a location-specific basis where technically and structurally feasible.
